Update on sweet tiny Sprout. ? (Warning: graphic photos! Don't swipe if upset by images of wounds.) ? When Sprout first got here, she had an abscess on the side of her bum, which was being treated with an antibiotic and healing nicely. After having her for a day, a second abscess suddenly showed up (and burst) on her front leg, exposing her muscle and tendons. Horrible. Abscesses occur when a small wound becomes infected and fills with pus--we are not sure why she has these two wounds, but it could be something as simple as being scratched by a littermate. Fortunately, @novacatclinic @thecatlvt was able to get her in and clean up her arm, give her a few stitches, and prescribe additional antibiotics to help her heal. Thank you guys! And finally, the tiniest of them all, Sprout. ? Please think good thoughts for her--she is the most vulnerable of them all. Sprout is a 2 week old dilute calico female weighing in at just 176 grams this morning. She has two abscesses, one on her backside and one on her front leg, which are being tended to and treated with an antibiotic. I've also given her fluids and plasma as a supportive care measure, and this morning she has an appointment with @thecatlvt to determine if further treatment is needed. She may be tiny and lumpy, but she's a gem! We won't let her down. Welcome, lil Sprout! #babysprout #kittenlady

Last week I had a final cuddle session with one of my favorite little spirits I've ever known, @_gochloego_. I cried numerous times throughout our goodbyes, and to be honest, I had to work pretty hard to stay goal oriented and follow my own advice: "goodbye is the goal." Fostering is about helping kittens prepare for adoption, sure, but it's natural that you'll bond deeply with some of them and have a hard time parting--it even happens to me. Now that she's been in her forever home for a whole week, I can honestly say I am so, so happy that I did lovingly let her go. Goodbye doesn't have to be sad...it's a gift! Now Chloe gets to live this lush, wonderfully happy life where she will be spoiled rotten, and I get to continue saving lives, now with even more knowledge gained from my experience of loving her. Lovingly detaching is a healthy, very kind gift we can give to animals, and it allows us to continue fighting on their behalf.
